Out of the blue there I met you - Part 2

People may say I am a nice guy and really sweet but deep down we all know , no one is perfect  . Long back I had made a promise to myself that people who chose to walk away from me or my life once , will never make a come back . Never means never . This may be a bit too harsh but then you have to make some rules for your own good and happiness  .

Remember , in life not everyone deserves a second chance. If someone really cared for you or appreciated the person you are , believe me they would have gone all out to be in the journey or least , to walk along with you.

That's what happened . The person did try to initiate a conversation with me but I had to move on.  Yes, memories and thoughts flashed by , but just flashed and I stepped out .  As I was moving on I did think I should say something but the time gone-by was so big that we were more than strangers now . It was now just one of the many random people you meet in this journey .  I did not ask anything nor did I say . What in any case could I have asked or shared.

All I did was just a smiling " take good care"  liner and I walked on . I could see the person's eyes were filled with a thousand questions and may be more but then you can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.

As I was walking down to board my flight I saw a mother holding her lovely daughter's tiny hands and the daughter looking up to her and smiling ,thinking she is in safe hands.  Indeed.

Journeys do a lot to you . Besides giving you a jet-lag they may give you  a jet-flash as well .

Happy journey ,as we say .

Out of the blue there I met you : Part 1

This may seem interesting . It did to me at the very start though .

Have you ever realized or may be wondered what happens when suddenly out of the blue / unlooked-for you run into someone from the past .  Not necessary run into but 'see' someone whom you used to know at one point in time in this life journey .  What happens ?!

Well,  ideally as an old saying goes 'Don't worry about the people in your past; There's a reason they didn't make it to your future' .  I may somewhat agree . But , like they also say , its sad when you know someone and then suddenly you 'used to know that someone.

A similar case with me happened during one of my travels .  At the airport waiting lounge ( btw : This was one of the few times when I actually availed the so called ' lounge benefit'  on my credit card and I must say it was worth it ) I was busy reading one of my most admired and an exceptional author - Yashodhara Lal's new release ' There's something about you '  and sipping my coffee when all of a sudden the door opened and right next to me was someone I used to know very well .

At the very start , I was really engrossed into the book and didn't notice who went in or stepped out let apart sitting next to me.  Then I hear someone speak - "New glasses  ?  Prada !! not bad "  .

And then I was just staring at this person's eyes and vice-versa.  It was a sweep , if I may call as I just kept staring at this person . It's been almost 6 years since we last met or spoke and ever since then this person was 'deleted' from my life-list as I put it.

But , right now I was clueless what to say or do.  God, I was thinking has this magic was unexpectedly turning tides  . In all this time I never really thought about this person and I was assuming the same from the other side.

This is something you may have faced as well  . What does one talk ? It's so long that both of you are on your own and have decided to be that way . You are clueless about what is happening in that person's life , good or bad and same is the case with other one. What conversation in the world can you have or the last resort is to just wear your 'courtesy hat'  say a hello and step-out.

My flight was almost an hour plus away and I am sure same was the case with that person .

You must be wondering what I said. Well , I just said - " thanks . Hope you are well " .

There is more though that happened after this .....which will come in soon....

Strike a Stroke - Time to act FAST

Normally , I prefer giving lectures and sessions and not necessarily listening to one. But , when the doctor speaks you must hear and pay attention .

I was at an elite Delhi gathering recently for a personal get together when in the neighbouring hall we heard someone tell us that a lady who seemed absolutely normal walked across to get some tea and fell down .

People gathered around her, made her sit and offered her tea and asked if everything was ok.  She nodded, as per them and everything was normal hence.

The only caveat being that within 4-5 hours of this incident she passed away .

She suffered a Stroke .  I was both shocked and sad to hear about this and think that some of Delhi's most elite people were at that gathering and yet everyone missed out on this particular thing . And so , I decided to do my bit to spread the word across so that a life can be saved by anyone anywhere.

Stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is either interrupted or reduced. When this happens, the brain does not get enough oxygen or nutrients which causes brain cells to die .

While I am not a doctor and wouldn't get into the detailing part on the causes of a stroke but what I would want to share is the quickest prevention you can do if you see someone who has suffered a stroke. My doctors suggested the below and I am sure this can go a long way to help someone in need.

Remember the below acronym  - FAST .

This acronym can help towards identifying the onset of stroke in someone:

  1. Face drooping: Try to ask the person to smile / show their teeth . If the person tries to smile does one side of the face droop? Check their face ? Has their mouth dropped ?
  2. Arm weakness: Ask the person to raise both the arms  . If the person tries to raise both their arms does one arm drift downward or wavers  ?
  3. Speech difficulty: Try asking the person to say something . It could be as easy as - ' Give me some tea' .  Check if the person tries to repeat a simple phrase is their speech slurred or strange? Do they understand you ?
  4. Time to call help : If any of these signs are observed, contact the emergency services of a hospital and without waiting please rush the patient to the nearest hospital and get them admitted.  The usual time that a person has post receiving a stroke is about 3 hours by which if a medical aid is given there are high chances of recovery and being back to normal .

A stroke is always a medical emergency. A stroke is not a heart attack. A stroke happens when the supply of blood to the brain is suddenly interrupted. Some strokes are fatal while others cause permanent or temporary disability.

The longer a stroke remains untreated, the greater the chance of stroke related brain damage. Emergency medical treatment soon after symptoms begin improves the chance of survival and successful rehabilitation.

The signs of stroke may occur alone or in combination and they can last a few seconds or up to 24 hours and then disappear.

If you or someone else experiences the signs of stroke, no matter how long they last, call medical help immediately.

The faster your act, the more of the person you save.
